Picnic Island Adventure Run and a PR

April 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I plan on doing at least one of these this summer:

I think it’ll be a lot of fun and definitely a challenge.

I need to update, but I PRed at Iron Girl this weekend. I’ve never really focused on my finishing time in the past, but I got off to a good start and then became obsessed with finishing with a new PR. :)

I think I might have forgotten how to run.

December 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It has been a really long time since I’ve blogged and unfortunately it has also been a really long time since I’ve been running. I went to Feet First a couple weeks ago to ask about my shoes to find out that I’ve gone about 150 miles TOO FAR on my shoes, thus discovering the source of my knee and feet pain. That kinda put a kibosh on the running for a bit. Well last weekend I went and purchased new shoes. The nice and knowledgeable lady who works there helped fit me and I think I finally found a pair of shoes that I love.

I’m very excited about my new shoes! I went for a run on Sunday to break them in. I still had a little bit of knee pain, but I think as I break the shoes in and ramp up (rebuild my base) my mileage, I’ll be okay. Unfortunately due to the holidays and grad school business and whatnot, running has taken a back seat. Furthermore, with work, internship, grad school and NYE coming up, I’m not sure when I’ll run. Ugh. I really need to make it a priority.

I’m coming up on my second running anniversary. I started running January 15th, 2007. Maybe it seems silly, but I definitely feel like it marks a shift in who I was versus who I am today. I’ll do something to celebrate, but I just wanted to mention it.

Running aside, the holidays were good. A lot of traditions were broken this year, which is sad. I’m really not a fan of change unless it’s change I initiate. I got an iphone, some pj pants, a sweet eco-friendly water bottle and tickets to Spring Awakening. I’m totally stoked about the Spring Awakening. For someone who wants to pursue a career in theatre, it’s been far too long since I’ve seen any live theatre.

Work tomorrow. I’m soo looking forward to that. [That statement is dripping with sarcasm.] Then adventure/concert with my favorite adventuring friend. Heck yes for the weekend!

Oy!

So for the first time since I moved back to St. Pete I got to come home on my lunch break and oh man, I REALLY don’t want to go back. Can it be Friday at 6:15 yet? Or if I do have to go back to work, can the day just absolutely fly by? Also, please no nasty customers, buses full of old people or large withdrawals. That would be brilliant. I am SO ready for it to be the weekend. Not that I have a relaxing weekend ahead of me, but anything is better than work. Bah-hum bug. Back to work, I guess.

I did a 5 mile run on Saturday and about 2 1/2 miles in my right knee started bothering the heck out of me. Of course, being stupid, I kept running and running. The last mile or so I caved and alternated between walking and running.

Anyway, my stupid knee ruined a good run and as a preventative measure I didn’t run Sunday and I was lazy today. I think I need new shoes. I figured it out and I have 425.19 miles on these. Maybe Santa will bring me new running shoes… or at least a gift certificate for new ones.

I’m trying to decide if I want to Jingle Bell run on Wednesday. I’m feeling kinda eh about it, because it’s money to run 3 miles, but it might be a lot of fun… so maybe? I guess only time will tell.

Thus far

August 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

My weekend thus far has consisted of: a fundraiser in gulfport at their Art Walk event, a get together at M’s “bachelor pad”, seeing N who I haven’t seen in weeks, getting 2 hours sleep, volunteering at the Top Gun Triathalon, meeting some really cool people, buying the new Twilight book, watching Hackers are People Too and now sleep… because tomorrow I’m waking up at 5:30am to go run 10 miles.

I totally have a lot more to write about but I’m too exhausted to think straight.

From our Honored Teammate.

July 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

One of our honored teammates is Bob Davis and he sent us this letter as a source of motivation. I wanted to pass it along to everyone else.

WOW!! Welcome back from Alaska – those of you who went.  At least you could be cool for a little while.  Now we are all preparing for the next marathon in San Antonio and San Francisco.

I know it is hot and it doesn’t look like we will get relief soon unless we get a hurricane.  We have to keep training to get ready for our next great adventure. I know it’s easy for me to say because I’m not out walking or running, but I’ll trade you all for my next chemo session.

I’m doing biotherapy by taking an IV drug call Rituxan every six months and it’s working so far.  Thanks to great research and testing -  We need to keep raising money.  There are a lot of people behind me that are alot ’sicker’ than I am.  The children is who we want to cure and save.  They are our future.

GO TEAM!!!

Uberdork.

July 14, 2008 · 1 Comment

I am a gianormous dork. I realize this and totally embrace it. Therefore when we made our weekend trip to Busch Gardens I brought my garmin to see how many miles we ended up walking and how many calories we burned. 4.80 miles and 639 calories, in case you were curious. Not to mention, we did a lot more sitting or animal watching than we usually do, so I think on a normal day, it would have been more miles. Anyway, I’m posted the totally awesome image of our trip for all of you to enjoy.

I guess all the walking will have to be an acceptable substitute for a Sunday run.

I have been neglectful.

July 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I had a wonderful time over the weekend. I really love jacksonville and could see myself living there, that is, if I had a reason to move again.

The girls and I spent Friday afternoon till Sunday at the beach. Mainly being lazy and hanging out at the beach and then going out at night. I am tan(ish) and I did it responsibly, well as responsible as you can be while laying in the sun for hours. But no burns and 45 spf sunscreen.

I heard from a friend on friday who I was afraid had dropped of the face of the planet and heard some absolutely wonderful news. I am absolutely overjoyed for her and can’t wait till I get to see her again.

Then of course Saturday was the wedding. That was such a fun event and so scary (but cool) to see friends get married. It’s only a matter of time before everyone starts walking down the aisle.

Sunday I caught up with an old friend and the headed back to reality. As much fun as I had, I didn’t get any rest and my eyes have been burning. I’m going to bed early tonight and might be able to catch up on my sleep. Maybe.

I survived Hell. Do I get a t-shirt?

July 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today is the third of the month. Social security checks are mailed/direct deposited into peoples accounts. Which makes my life a living hell. BUT I survived. Therefore I am rewarded by going to Jacksonville Beach to spend the weekend with my bestest friends and to see a couple friends to get married. I’m so freakin’ excited.

This week was hell, but yay, it’s over! Now to fun and sun at the beach! OH yeah and did I mention ANGIES?!

I need to run. Have I mentioned this before? I need to run. I didn’t bring any running clothes with me this weekend, but I do plan on taking lots of walks. Wandering around Jax beach for a while, so while not the same thing, it is something.

Okay. Just felt like I needed to update things.
